APE 2012!

Malachi Ward and myself just returned from APE. It was a pretty great trip.

I purchased an awesome Broadsheet by Aidan Koch, from the Press Gang table. It's a beautiful piece, and I love the way the "syntax" of sequence works in contrast with the single images and painterly rendering. It feels like Koch found the images that a great poem left in the back of your mind, pulled them out, and painted them.

I didn't really buy much other stuff, because I was trying to be financially smart this time and maybe actually net something. I snagged Underwater Welder from the Top Shelf table, which I hear is awesome, but I have to read it before I can say anything about it. Jeff Lemire is a top notch writer, though, so I trust it.

Last but not least of my acquisitions was Brian Herrick's "Business of Monkeys #2". I still have to read this one before I go talking about it. I did a little story, as did Malachi, for an anthology that Brian put together called "Milk and Carrots #2". You can purchase that from his store as well. Make sure you poke around his site, because there's plenty of cool stuff.

Malachi had his most recent and awesome horror comic "Real Life" there, and this was the big convention debut of Expansion Part 4 (which was also present at SF Zinefest). Both of those are available at his website www.malachiward.com. If you haven't started Expansion yet, now's a great time, because the story is complete. Be sure to visit his Etsy store as well, where you can purchase a ton of cool stuff, prints, comics, original pages even!

I am currently working on a comic, which shall be unveiled soon. In the meantime, you can get a tease of the sort of art that will be in it by going over here, and looking through the prints!
